Light Heartedness

Traumatic experiences are exhausting. They can be on your mind 24x7 and take every ounce of energy you have.

Being light-hearted helps. I have had 8 years worth of trauma to back up my claim.

As I have written many a time, we each possess the power to control our state of mind. Despite the circumstances, we can be optimistic and hopeful; the alternative is only going to sap more of your much needed energy and fuel negativity.

So what does being light-hearted mean? It means not taking yourself or your circumstances too seriously. Let misbehavior roll off your back. I love to say “seriously?” to myself when other people’s behavior is completely off base. One of my other favorites is to shake my head slowly in disbelief. Jokes work if you know them.

The point is to be easy on yourself. You will notice the negative self talk or perseveration about your situation dissipate.

Light heartedness is self-directed and best used internally or with your supporters.

Give it a try.
